Teachers of independent Ibtidaei Madrasas have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding the nationalization of their institutions. They have warned that if their demands are not met within the given time frame, they will surround the Ministry of Home Affairs in protest.

The ultimatum was announced during a sit-in demonstration held near the National Museum in Shahbagh on Monday. Professor Ruhul Amin from the Department of International Relations at Dhaka University, speaking on behalf of the teachers, questioned the use of tear gas and sound grenades against helpless educators. He said, “Why were tear gas and sound grenades used on us after August 5? The Home Ministry advisor must come and explain why the police used batons. If not, we will surround Shahbagh Police Station, and then the Ministry of Home Affairs and Secretariat.”

Liberty News’ national correspondent reports that Joint Convener of the Movement Implementation Committee, Hafiz Maulana Abdul Hannan Hossain, told the media that a high-level government team had met with them the previous day. They assured that a decision would be made by the ministry within the day. Hossain emphasized that the teachers were conducting their protest peacefully, but warned that if the issue is not resolved by today, it could lead to a larger movement.
