Army has arrested Shihab Hossain Shoyon, alias Arafat, the notorious godfather of a teenage gang in Mohammadpur. He is implicated in ten criminal cases, including murder, sexual harassment, extortion and abduction, filed across various police stations in Dhaka. Additionally, two cases have been registered against him for attempting to suppress student protests during the July mass uprising.
According to a statement from the Mohammadpur Army Camp, Shoyon was previously associated with top terrorist Shahadat from Mirpur has close ties with Dhaka South Councillors Forkan and Rashtoron of wards 28 & 32.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Shoyon fled Dhaka to Sherpur. He recently returned to Dhaka with the intention of re-establishing his criminal network in Agargaon. Based on intelligence, two army teams set up checkpoints at potential arrival points. He was eventually apprehended on Manik Mia Avenue.
Following his arrest, two of his associates, Ridhoy and Sohag, were also detained from separate locations in Agargaon based on Shoyon’s information.
The arrested individuals have been handed over to Sher-e-Bangla police station for further legal proceedings.
