BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said the party does not support any executive order declaring the activities of a political party or banning it.

“Those seeking a ban on the 14-party alliance, including the Jatiya Party, can file their complaints in court if their claims are genuine,” he said.

Salahuddin made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his Gulshan residence in Dhaka on Tuesday.

He emphasised that such matters should be decided through judicial processes. “We do not support banning any political party through an executive order. We have made it clear long ago that the question of banning a political party should be determined through judicial proceedings. Let the court decide,” he said.

He further noted that if any party is found guilty of genocide or crimes against humanity in a legal process, the court can impose restrictions on that party. “If it is determined through judicial procedures, the Election Commission is bound to comply. Any attempt to ban a political party through executive orders outside this process would be a dangerous precedent. Those now calling for the ban on the 14-party alliance and the Jatiya Party can submit their complaints to the court, and the matter should be resolved legally,” he added.

Salahuddin Ahmed also differentiated the ruling Awami League from other parties, saying, “They are responsible for genocide and crimes against humanity and for undermining the country’s democratic system. Cases have been filed against the fascist government, including the Prime Minister and others, for genocide and crimes against humanity. The judicial process is ongoing and more cases may follow.”
