Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three individuals for allegedly assaulting Rafia Tamanna, a journalist with New Age, in Dhaka’s Banasree area.
The suspects, Shoaib Rahman Jishan, Raisul Islam, and Kawsar Hossain, were apprehended from different parts of the capital late Wednesday night.
According to RAB-3’s Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanad Barua, the incident gained widespread attention on social media after reports surfaced of harassment in Rampura. Following an investigation, RAB tracked down Jishan in Meradia, Rampura. Based on his information, Raisul was arrested from Bailey Road, and Kawsar from Gandaria.
The assault occurred on Wednesday evening when Rafia and her brother were at a local shop. The accused reportedly harassed her, leading to an altercation. Later that night, she filed a case at Rampura Police Station, naming Jishan and several unidentified individuals.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that Rampura Police Station OC Ataur Rahman Akand confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation is ongoing.
