Three arrested in Jaipurhat housewife sexual assault case

In Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, police have arrested three accused in a case filed over the rape of a housewife. The arrests were made during raids in various locations of the upazila early this morning, Saturday. Earlier, the victim’s husband filed a case accusing the three individuals of rape.

The three arrested accused are Rubel Hossain (33), Faruk Hossain (40), and Ekramul Haque (42). They are residents of Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat. The housewife who was raped is also from a village in Akkelpur upazila.

The case statement mentions that the housewife enrolled in a three-day training program at Joypurhat Technical Training Center (TTC) with the aim of going abroad. During this time, she became acquainted with other trainees. On February 5, after the training ended, Rubel offered to take her home but instead took her to his house, where he physically assaulted her. Later that night, around 9:00 PM, Rubel took her to his friend Faruk’s deep tube-well room. There, Rubel, Faruk, and Ekramul raped her. At one point, the housewife lost consciousness. Afterward, they left her in the tube-well room and fled.

The case statement further mentions that the next morning after the rape, the housewife regained consciousness and made her way to the road, where she took a van to Joypurhat Technical Training Center (TTC). From there, she called her husband to come and pick her up. On the way home, she disclosed the incident to her husband. Later, as her physical condition deteriorated, her husband admitted her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Akkelpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Anisur Rahman, told Liberty News’ that the housewife’s husband filed a case against the three accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act late Friday night, past 12:00 AM. Following the case, police conducted raids early this morning and arrested the three accused.
