A Dhaka court on Monday placed Titumir College student Bishwajit Chandra Barman, 21, on a two-day remand in a case filed over making derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order after police sought a five-day remand for the accused, court state prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed.

According to the case statement, the accused allegedly posted offensive and hateful content targeting the Prophet (PBUH) by using a fake Facebook ID on 22 November.

He also made derogatory comments about Islam during Messenger conversations, intending to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.

He was later identified and detained by fellow students on 26 November at the college campus during questioning.

He failed to provide satisfactory answers and reportedly admitted that he had been operating the fake Facebook ID.

At that time, he was injured in an attack by agitated students. Later, police from Banani Police Station arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control, and took the accused into custody upon receiving information.
