Students of Titumir College have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Amtoli in Mahakhali, Dhaka, to press their demands. As a result, additional police forces have been deployed throughout the area to maintain control. Water cannons have also been kept on standby.

On Sunday, February 2, at around 6:30 p.m., students of Titumir College took out a protest march and blocked Mahakhali. Consequently, all types of traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway came to a standstill, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.

Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the Gulshan Division, Md. Tarek Mahmud, of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), spoke on the situation, stating, “We are currently stationed at Amtoli in Mahakhali and are monitoring the situation.”

On the ground, hundreds of students could be seen protesting at the Amtoli intersection, chanting slogans such as “We do not accept the decision of the Education Advisor,” “Action to action, direct action,” “We want justice,” “No compromise, only struggle,” “Titumir is coming, the streets are shaking,” “TC or TU, TU TU,” “Our brothers are on hunger strike, what is the administration doing?” “Break the syndicate of the administration,” “No business with education,” and “We reject the principal’s syndicate.”

Earlier, following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at the Planning Commission, Education Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud told journalists that the government-formed committee is working to establish a separate university for the seven colleges, including Titumir College. The Education Advisor further mentioned that many students of Titumir College want to return to their classes and do not wish to cause public suffering. He also requested students to keep public inconvenience in mind while making their demands.
