Today (February 4) is World Cancer Day. Since 2000, this day has been observed worldwide with various programs to raise public awareness. Accordingly, World Cancer Day is being observed today in Bangladesh through various activities.

Cancer is one of the most complex and difficult diseases in the human body. According to the World Health Organization, cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. Every year, nearly one million people die from this disease. Therefore, to raise awareness about this disease, World Cancer Day is observed on February 4 every year.

This year’s theme for World Cancer Day is “United by Unique.”

Experts say that through awareness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a large portion of people can protect themselves from this disease. Therefore, promoting awareness about cancer is more important than living in fear of it. This is why World Cancer Day is observed every year on February 4.

Doctors believe that regular screenings help detect cancer early, making treatment easier. When cancer spreads, symptoms or signs may appear in various parts of the body.

Recent studies show that the current incidence of cancer in the country is 106 cases per 100,000 people. Additionally, 53 new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year. Cancer accounts for 12% of total deaths.

Liberty News’ international corrspondent informs that in our country, breast, oral cavity, tongue, esophagus, colorectal, cervical, and lung cancers are the most prevalent. However, the good news is that 30 to 50 percent of cancers can be prevented through a healthy lifestyle and vaccination. Additionally, regular screenings and early detection through them can save lives.
