Infamous top criminal Subrata Bain was arrested early Tuesday during a joint operation in Kushtia’s Kalishankarpur area, along with another top-listed criminal Molla Masud and six others.

The arrest was confirmed around 3:15 PM by a source from the law enforcement agencies. The operation began at dawn and continued until 8:00 AM at a house near Sonar Bangla Mosque in Kushtia town.

Subrata Bain was a dominant figure in Dhaka’s underworld during the 1990s, known for controlling tenders, extortion, and being involved in numerous violent crimes. His criminal journey reportedly began while working at a restaurant named Changpai near Moghbazar’s Bishal Center, which later became the center of his operations—earning him the alias “Bishaler Subrata.”

He was among the 23 top criminals named by the then BNP-Jamaat government in a list issued on December 25, 2001. An Interpol red notice is still active against him, showing his age as 55. The Home Ministry had once declared a bounty for his capture.

Locals informed that the house where he was arrested is owned by Mir Mohiuddin and is mostly rented out as mess housing for students. According to residents, army personnel conducted the three-hour-long raid. The lower floor of the building was rented by a local two months ago, who recently brought in a “guest” 12–15 days prior—believed to be Subrata Bain. Residents say they only saw the man occasionally come out to eat but were unaware of his identity.
