Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin has stated that corruption had infiltrated the entire economy in the past, damaging it significantly through unnecessary projects and money laundering.
Sheikh Bashiruddin, Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser, has criticized past economic management, claiming that corruption had spread across the entire economy, leading to substantial damage through wasteful projects and money laundering. Speaking at a two-day conference on “Restructuring the Economy” organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), he emphasized the importance of diversifying export products and enhancing workforce skills to strengthen the economy.
He also highlighted that most raw materials are imported and called for efforts to boost productivity, reduce production costs, and increase exports by improving efficiency.
Liberty News’ economic correspondent states that the first session of the conference was chaired by K.A.S. Murshid, former Director-General of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), who also serves as the chairman of the economic strategy task force. Other notable attendees included CPD Chairman Professor Rehman Sobhan and BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
