In an effort to stabilize commodity prices and regulate the market, the Ministry of Commerce conducted inspections across several locations in Dhaka, imposing fines totaling Tk 6,500 on seven businesses for various violations.
According to a press release issued by the ministry on Wednesday, the monitoring teams carried out operations at Mohammadpur Town Hall Kitchen Market and Malibagh Market, ensuring compliance with pricing regulations.
At Mohammadpur Town Hall Kitchen Market, a team led by Deputy Secretary Jannatul Ferdous inspected the prices of essential commodities, including rice, lentils, eggs, and poultry. Officials checked whether businesses displayed updated price lists and maintained proper transaction records. As a result, five businesses were fined Tk 3,500 for failing to comply with these regulations.
Similarly, at Malibagh Market, another team, headed by Assistant Secretary Md. Abdul Kader, identified various irregularities, leading to Tk 3,000 in fines against two businesses.
Liberty News’ economic correspondent states that officials from various departments under the Ministry of Commerce were present during the operations. Authorities stated that market monitoring would continue to ensure fair pricing and prevent malpractices.
