A Dhaka court has barred former Gazipur-3 MP Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, his wife, and son from leaving the country amid an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation into alleged illicit wealth accumulation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the travel ban on Sunday following a petition filed by ACC Assistant Director Saidul Islam. The order affects Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, his wife Nigar Sultana Jhuma, and their son Mohammad Shakhawat.
The ACC sought the ban fearing the family might attempt to flee the country to avoid interrogation. The commission is currently investigating allegations that Iqbal Hossain amassed wealth inconsistent with his known sources of income.
Despite being served summons, neither Iqbal nor his family appeared before the ACC to present their statements, prompting the commission to request court intervention.
ACC’s Public Relations Officer, Akhtarul Islam, confirmed the court’s decision, emphasizing that the restriction is aimed at ensuring an unhindered investigation process.
