A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban and ordered to block National ID (NID) cards for three individuals, including two personal officers (POs) to Health Adviser and a former leader of the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), amid an ongoing corruption investigation.
The order issued on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain Galib, follows separate petitions from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) .
Those barred from leaving the country are Salahuddin Tanvir, former joint secretary of NCP; Tuhin Farabi, former PO to Health Adviser and Mahmudul Hasan, current PO to Health Adviser.
According to ACC, Tanvir is under investigation for alleged abuse of power, lobbying and extortion and accumulating hundreds of crores of taka in illicit assets.
Investigators cited credible sources suggesting Tanvir might attempt to flee the country, risking disruption of the probe.
In a separate petition, ACC alleged that Farabi and Hasan possess illegal moveable and immovable assets and may try to flee abroad to transfer or conceal them, which could hinder the investigation process.
The court deemed the travel restrictions and NID blocks necessary to ensure an effective inquiry.
