Jamaat-e-Islami leader Nurul Islam Bulbul stated that ensuring justice for mass killings is a key demand of martyr families and a prerequisite before holding any national election.
Nurul Islam Bulbul, central executive member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Amir of Dhaka South, said the interim government must prioritize justice for mass killings and structural reform before arranging a fair election. He made the remarks on Saturday during a financial aid distribution program organized for martyr families in Dhaka.
“Jamaat is ready to assist the government in delivering justice and implementing reform. If these duties are ignored, fascism may rise again,” he warned.
He questioned the sincerity of other political parties toward martyr families, stating, “Jamaat has never treated martyrs as party assets. We consider them national heroes.” He added that Jamaat has been consistently offering financial support and rehabilitation, regardless of political affiliation.
Bulbul further alleged that the ruling Awami League committed state-backed atrocities during the recent student-people movement. He claimed that Jamaat provided full support to the protest, including free ambulance services and medical treatment for the injured.
“The government admitted Jamaat’s role in the movement, which led to threats of banning the party,” he noted, adding that Jamaat prioritized national interest over party survival.
The event, presided over by Dhaka South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, was attended by senior leaders including Naib-e-Amir Abdus Sabur Fakir, Dr. Helal Uddin, Muhammad Delawar Hossain, Dr. Abdul Mannan, and others. A total of Tk 2.7 million was distributed, with Tk 100,000 given to 15 families and Tk 200,000 each to six families.
