A rod-carrying truck overturned on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Munshiganj’s Gazaria early Friday, causing a 7-kilometer-long tailback and severe commuter distress.

The incident occurred around 4:00am near Jamaldi on the slope of the Meghna Bridge. The overturned truck blocked the highway, with scattered rods worsening the obstruction. Police confirmed that it took hours to clear the vehicle and debris from the road.

Traffic stretched from Jamaldi to Bhoberchar Bus Stand, affecting hundreds of vehicles. Drivers and passengers reported delays of several hours. “We’ve been stuck in the same spot for three hours,” said passenger Jubayer Hossain, traveling from Chattogram.

Bhoberchar Highway Police OC Shawkat Hossain stated that efforts were underway to restore traffic flow and manage the congestion caused by the accident and subsequent vehicle mismanagement on both sides of the road.
