US President Donald Trump has asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the release of grand jury testimony related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. His directive comes amid growing scrutiny over alleged links to the convicted sex offender and new media reports reviving questions about Trump’s past interactions with Epstein.

Trump’s request follows a report by the Wall Street Journal that referenced a controversial letter purportedly sent to Epstein on his birthday in 2003. The letter, which the publication claims was signed by Trump, included a crude drawing of female anatomy with Trump’s name appearing where pubic hair would be, along with the typed message: “Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

In response, Trump dismissed the report as false and announced legal action. “I will be suing the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch for publishing this fake letter. We warned them not to run this garbage,” he posted on Truth Social Thursday night.

Seeking to counter mounting public suspicion, Trump stated: “Due to the absurd media attention surrounding Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce all relevant grand jury testimony, pending court approval. This scam by the Democrats must stop now.”

Bondi echoed Trump’s message shortly after on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “President Trump—we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.”

Legal experts caution, however, that grand jury records are typically kept sealed to protect victims and sensitive details. It’s unclear if a judge will agree to the release. The Department of Justice is reportedly preparing a formal request for unsealing to be filed in Manhattan federal court, though it remains uncertain what arguments they will present.

Federal grand juries collect testimony and evidence to support indictments, but do not always provide a full picture of an investigation. Some transcripts from a 2006 Florida grand jury probe into Epstein have already been made public, and key details emerged during the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell—Epstein’s longtime associate—who was sentenced in 2022 to 20 years in prison for recruiting and sexually abusing underage girls.

The latest push by Trump and Bondi does not clarify whether FBI interview notes or other investigatory materials outside the grand jury process will be released. Such documents often contain more detail than what is shared in court and could potentially add to the public’s understanding of the wider case.

As Trump attempts to clear his name, questions remain about the extent of his past association with Epstein, and whether releasing partial grand jury materials will provide the full transparency he claims to support.
