US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American forces carried out a “very successful attack” on three of Iran’s main nuclear facilities, including the heavily fortified Fordow site. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Fordow is gone,” and praised the US military for its precision.
The strikes, involving B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles, mark a significant escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran. The United States coordinated the operation closely with Israel, according to both nations’ officials.
Despite the scale of the strikes, US officials said no further military action is currently planned, and diplomatic messages have been sent to Tehran indicating that Washington does not seek regime change.
Iran confirmed that parts of the Fordow facility were hit. Meanwhile, President Trump is scheduled to address the nation from the Oval Office to elaborate on the US position.
The conflict, triggered by Israeli strikes on June 13, has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries across both countries. While Republican leaders showed mixed reactions to the US involvement, many Democrats criticised the move as unconstitutional and lacking Congressional approval.
Iran insists its nuclear programme is peaceful, while Israel maintains that Tehran was nearing the capability to develop nuclear weapons.
