US President Donald Trump has dismissed General Charles Q. Brown, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who was the highest-ranking military officer in the country. On the same day, US Secretary of Defense also announced the dismissal of Admiral Lisa Frankchetti, the Chief of Naval Operations, and General James Slife, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Trump appointed retired Air Force Lieutenant General John D. Cain to replace General Charles Q. Brown, a move that has been considered unprecedented since Cain was brought back from retirement, he is not a four-star general.

On Friday, February 21, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth, where he referred to General Charles Q. Brown as a “gentleman” and “outstanding leader.” He also hinted that more military officials would be dismissed, writing, “I have instructed Secretary of Defense Hegseth to finalize the nomination of five more senior officials, which will be announced very soon.”

Admiral Lisa Frankchetti, who was the first female Chief of Naval Operations and the first woman to serve as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in US history, had been criticized by Trump’s Secretary of Defense in 2024. He was unhappy with the appointment of a woman to head the Navy had written in his book, “If naval officers fail, at least we can hold our heads high. Because we have another first! The first female Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

Liberty News international correspondent reports that Trump had announced plans for significant changes within the armed forces even before taking office on January 20. He has now initiated these changes by dismissing General Charles Q. Brown.
