The White House confirmed Thursday that President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a non-serious but long-term condition affecting blood flow in the legs. The announcement follows recent public concern over swelling in his lower limbs and discoloration on his hand.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the 79-year-old president began noticing mild swelling in his legs in recent weeks. Medical examinations, including ultrasound tests, confirmed the diagnosis, which is common in people over 70.
Leavitt explained that the bruising on Trump’s right hand was caused by frequent handshaking and his use of aspirin as part of a routine heart health regimen.
Trump, who began his second presidential term in January, remains the oldest individual to assume the office, having succeeded Joe Biden, who was 82 at the end of his term. Known for his energetic public persona, Trump continues to golf regularly and was recently portrayed as Superman in a social media post by his administration.
The condition is considered benign and manageable, and the White House emphasized that the disclosure was made in the interest of transparency.
