UK Labour MP Tulip Siddiq has issued a legal notice to Bangladesh’s interim Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign to damage her reputation. The notice, reported by Sky News, demands a formal response by 30 June regarding corruption investigations Siddiq calls “trumped-up.”
Siddiq, niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also claimed her request to meet Prof Yunus during his UK visit was rejected. She argues recent media briefings and public comments by Yunus have prejudiced any fair investigation and calls for inquiries to be dropped.
The Bangladeshi government insists it has evidence and will pursue legal action through the courts. Siddiq, MP for Hampstead and Highgate, said she would not be “dragged into dirty politics” and accused the interim administration of “malicious persecution.”
