Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has accused Israel of dragging the Middle East towards “total disaster” following its airstrikes on Iran earlier this month.
Speaking at a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Saturday, Fidan criticised Israel’s 13 June attacks on Iran, calling for restraint to avoid a broader regional crisis.
“Israel is now leading the region to the brink of total disaster by attacking Iran, our neighbour,” he said, adding, “There is no Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian, Yemeni or Iranian problem — but there is clearly an Israeli problem.”
He urged member nations to work together to end what he described as Israel’s “unlimited aggression” and prevent further destabilisation of regional and global security.
Following Fidan’s remarks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Western countries for their “unconditional support” of Israel and warned against any attempts to redraw borders in the region “with blood”.
“It is vital for us to show more solidarity to end Israel’s banditry — not only in Palestine but also in Syria, Lebanon and Iran,” Erdogan told representatives of the 57-member Islamic bloc.
The OIC, established in 1969, promotes cooperation among Muslim-majority countries and aims to defend the interests of the Islamic world while fostering global peace.
