In a shocking incident in Chattogram, two youths were arrested for attacking a police officer and snatching his walkie-talkie, mobile phone, and wallet. The incident took place on Friday night at Charpara near Patenga Beach in the city.
According to police sources and eyewitnesses, Sub-Inspector (SI) Yusuf Ali of Patenga Police Station noticed a group of local youths smoking drugs (ganja) near Charpara Ghat around 11 pm. Upon questioning, the youths admitted their wrongdoing and were let go after a warning.
However, about 30 minutes later, the same youths returned with a mob, questioning SI Yusuf Ali’s authenticity and accusing him of being a fake police officer. Without warning, they began attacking him, beating him brutally. During the assault, the youths snatched the officer’s walkie-talkie, mobile phone, and wallet before fleeing the scene.
Patenga Police later rescued SI Yusuf Ali and took him to the hospital for treatment. The police launched an immediate operation, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Tafseer Imam and Mohammad Simon. The stolen items, including the walkie-talkie, mobile phone, and wallet, were recovered from the suspects, along with a knife and motorcycle used in the robbery.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that a case under the Speedy Trial Act has been filed at Patenga Police Station. The arrested individuals have no known profession and are described as troublemakers.
