Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two individuals with 69 hand bombs and bomb-making materials during a special operation at the Hnila border in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

On Sunday, BGB’s Teknaf Battalion-2, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on an abandoned house in the Fulerdail area of Hnila Union. The team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Ashikur Rahman, seized 69 hand bombs, along with 1.6 kg of sulfur, 1.3 kg of lala (a chemical component), 31 cans of tobacco, 220 grams of gun powder, and one plus (a bomb trigger mechanism) after a three-hour search of dilapidated tin-shed houses.

Two individuals were arrested at the scene, but two other suspects managed to flee when they noticed BGB’s presence. During questioning, the detained suspects revealed that a criminal syndicate had been making and selling bombs to various locations across the country for some time. The bombs were believed to be intended for local dominance, terrorism, sabotage, and other criminal activities.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Lieutenant Colonel Ashikur Rahman confirmed that the arrested individuals and the seized items would be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action. He also stated that efforts were underway to arrest the two individuals who had fled, and investigations into the involvement of the house owner were ongoing.
