Two Bangladeshi youths were injured after Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire near the Shyampur border in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila early Saturday.

In a cross-border incident, two Bangladeshi nationals—Rabiul (28), son of Sher Ali, and Azad Hossain (26), son of Abdul Hakim Miah—were shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) around 1:00 AM near the Shyampur area of Bayek Union under Kasba upazila. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Brahmanbaria.

According to Lt. Col. Ziaur Rahman, Commanding Officer (CO) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-60 in Sultanpur, the shooting occurred after a group of 7–8 individuals illegally crossed into Indian territory through the Shyampur border. While inside India, approximately 150–200 yards from the border, BSF personnel opened fire, injuring Rabiul in the back and Azad in the face.

The injured were rescued and brought back to Bangladesh by fellow group members.

Lt. Col. Rahman further confirmed that BGB is gathering more details from the wounded individuals and that preparations are underway for a flag meeting at the company commander level between BGB and BSF to address the incident.
