Two stabbed by snatchers in Dhaka

Two individuals were injured in separate stabbing incidents by muggers in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and Jatrabari areas, with both victims currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The incidents took place late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The injured have been identified as Manik Mia (18) and Imon (21). They were brought to DMCH’s emergency department at around 12:30 AM and 7:30 AM, respectively.

Manik Mia, a food delivery worker for Foodpanda, was attacked in the 40 Feet area of Mohammadpur while delivering an order. His brother-in-law, Suman, stated, “Around 11 PM, muggers intercepted him, stabbed him with a sharp weapon, and took his Foodpanda bag, mobile phone, and cash.” Manik hails from Nalitabari in the Sherpur district.

In another incident, Imon, a supervisor at Saint Martin Sea View Travel Agency, was stabbed near the Saidabad railway crossing in Jatrabari. His friend Naeem, who brought him to the hospital, said, “Imon was on his way home to Barishal after finishing his duty when four to five muggers stopped him. They stabbed him in the lower abdomen and took his mobile phone and Tk 10,000 before fleeing.” Imon is from Kaunia in Barishal.

Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Masud of DMCH police camp confirmed the incidents, stating, “Both victims were brought to the hospital from Mohammadpur and Jatrabari after being stabbed by snatchers. The respective police stations have been informed.”
