The United Arab Emirates skipper Muhammad Waseem won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in their final Group ‘A’ match of the ongoing Asia Cup.
The game, originally scheduled earlier, began at 9:30 PM Bangladesh Standard Time following a one-hour delay.
Pakistan made two changes to their playing XI with Haris Rauf and Khushdil Shah coming in for Sufiyan Muqeem and Faheem Ashraf. UAE also made one change, with Simranjeet Singh replacing Jawadullah.
The match went ahead after Zimbabwean referee Andy Pycroft issued an apology to the Pakistan team’s captain Salman Ali Agha and manager, following the controversial handshake row in Sunday’s match against arch-rivals India. The PCB said Pycroft called the incident “a result of miscommunication” and expressed willingness to allow an ICC inquiry into the code of conduct violation.
Earlier, uncertainty had clouded Pakistan’s participation, with reports suggesting the team might not play. The PCB had postponed its pre-match press conference, though the squad did attend practice sessions.
