For the second consecutive year, the United Nations has listed Israel in its annual report on grave violations against children in armed conflict, citing verified cases of child deaths, injuries, and attacks on schools and hospitals in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The 2024 report marks the 24th edition of the UN’s global review, which records verified instances where children have been killed, maimed, recruited by armed groups, or subjected to attacks on education and healthcare facilities.
Despite years of documented incidents, Israel had long avoided inclusion due to political pressure. That changed in 2023, when it was added for the first time — and the designation has now been upheld for a second year.
The annex of this year’s report states that Israeli forces met the criteria for being listed as a “party that kills and maims children” and “a party that engages in attacks on schools and/or hospitals.”
In total, the UN verified 41,370 grave violations against children worldwide in 2024. More than 8,000 of those — roughly 20 percent — were attributed to Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territory.
