United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived at the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar as part of his official visit to Bangladesh. He was accompanied by the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Guterres landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 1:00 PM on Friday via a Bangladesh Biman Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He was welcomed by Interim Government Adviser Faruk-i-Azam Bir Protik, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, and Superintendent of Police. From the airport, he proceeded directly to the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, while Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus attended various programs in Cox’s Bazar before heading to the camp in the afternoon.

During his visit, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to inspect the under-construction Cox’s Bazar International Airport and the Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center. Later in the day, he will join the UN Secretary-General and nearly 100,000 Rohingya refugees for an iftar gathering in Ukhiya.

Meanwhile, Antonio Guterres will visit key sites in the Rohingya camp, including the Rohingya Learning Center, the Rohingya Cultural Center, and the jute-based product manufacturing center.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that following their engagements, both the Chief Adviser and the UN Secretary-General will return to Dhaka in the evening.
