Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the fall of the fascist regime was not due to his leadership alone but the united efforts of 180 million oppressed people in the country.
Addressing a thanksgiving rally in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Wednesday morning, organized to mark the release of former acting secretary general ATM Azharul Islam, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed gratitude to Allah and credited the people of Bangladesh for what he called a historic victory over fascism.
“This movement was never about one leader,” he said. “It was a collective resistance, and above all, we give the ultimate credit to Almighty Allah.”
Dr. Rahman emphasized the need for continued unity in facing national challenges. “We will walk the same path when our nation demands it, and we will move forward by defeating all conspiracies, In Shaa Allah.”
Calling the event a humble expression rather than a formal gathering, he remarked, “This is not a grand rally. It is a moment to hear the initial sentiments of an oppressed leader. Soon, we will hear him speak on a much larger platform—right here in Dhaka, In Shaa Allah.”
Referring to Azharul Islam, who was previously sentenced to death, the Jamaat chief said, “He was a victim of injustice, yet Allah protected him and returned him to us. We thank Allah and pray for his continued good health and ability to serve the nation.”
The event concluded with prayers and chants of solidarity among the attendees.
