The death toll from the US airstrikes in Yemen has risen to 53, including women and children, as the US targets Houthi positions. The Houthis have vowed significant retaliation.

The death toll from the US airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen has risen to 53, according to a statement by Anis Asbahi, a spokesperson for the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Health. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, has left five children and two women among the dead. An additional 98 people have been injured.

The US initiated the airstrikes on Houthi rebel positions, with the Houthis vowing a major retaliation in response. Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the Houthi military, stated that the group launched 18 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as a drone, targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and its warships. The US has not yet commented on the Houthi’s claims.

In a televised speech, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi accused the US and Israel of attempting to impose dominance over the region. He warned of missile strikes against their warships and threatened to target Israeli vessels if humanitarian aid is denied to Gaza.

Liberty News’ international correspondent states that US President Donald Trump has warned of “unlimited lethal force” being used against the Houthis, declaring that airstrikes would continue until the group halts its attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The US has carried out over 47 strikes across Yemen.
