The United States has deported 1,080 Indian nationals so far this year for alleged violations of immigration laws, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

The information was revealed on Thursday by Indian news outlet NDTV, citing official statements from the Ministry. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that those deported were either residing illegally in the US or had entered the country without proper documentation.

“There exists a cooperative framework between India and the United States on immigration matters,” Jaiswal emphasized, underscoring the ongoing coordination between the two nations.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that the Trump administration is considering stricter social media scrutiny for visa applicants.

As part of this review, on Wednesday, all US embassies worldwide were instructed not to issue new interview appointments for student visa applicants until further notice.

The move signals a tightening of US immigration and visa policies, raising concerns among prospective international students and travelers.
