During President Donald Trump’s ongoing visit to Saudi Arabia, the United States is finalizing a landmark $100 billion arms deal with the kingdom, marking a major step in renewing strategic ties.
The agreement includes the purchase of advanced weaponry, radar systems, and transport aircraft by Saudi Arabia from the United States. The deal is being framed as part of a broader effort to bolster military cooperation and regional security.
The US has historically been one of Saudi Arabia’s largest arms suppliers. However, ties cooled during President Joe Biden’s administration, which temporarily suspended arms sales to the kingdom over concerns regarding its role in the Yemen war.
Tensions between the two nations also escalated after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. US intelligence reports claimed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the operation, an allegation Riyadh has consistently denied.
This new deal signals a potential reset in US–Saudi relations and reflects Trump’s intent to secure large-scale investments and defense contracts during his Middle East tour.
