The arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, in the 21st August grenade attack case has been withdrawn following an order from the High Court.

The decision was made by Judge Rofiqul Islam of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 on Monday (February 17) in response to a petition from the state.

Earlier, on December 1, the High Court bench, led by Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, acquitted all the accused in the case.

Liberty News’ court correspondent states that Special Public Prosecutor for Speedy Trial Tribunal-1, Abdur Rashid Molla, informed that several of the acquitted accused, including Tarique Rahman, had been absconding. The court had previously issued arrest warrants against them, but upon the High Court’s ruling, the warrants were revoked. Following this order, the prosecution filed a petition to withdraw the arrest warrants for Tarique Rahman and the others, which the court has granted.
