As Israeli air raids continue, the World Food Programme warns of an immediate need for food in Gaza, where thousands are starving under siege.

At least 64 Palestinians were killed early Friday as Israeli forces carried out heavy airstrikes on residential homes, makeshift shelters, and a salon in Gaza, according to Al Jazeera. Smoke was seen rising over the Tuffah area in eastern Gaza following the bombings.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) stated, “Food is needed in Gaza now. Thousands are surviving in hunger, yet aid cannot enter due to the ongoing blockade.”

The humanitarian crisis is worsening as people are becoming mentally shattered under constant bombardment and food shortages, reported Al Jazeera’s correspondent from Gaza.

The health ministry in Gaza reports over 51,000 Palestinians killed and more than 100,000 injured since the Israeli operation began 18 months ago. However, Gaza’s media office estimates the death toll has surpassed 61,700, with many still buried under rubble.

The conflict began after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, in which 1,139 people were killed and over 200 abducted.
