Marking a historic moment, the Bangladesh women’s national football team participated in the government-organized Boishakh rally for the first time, joining the nation in welcoming the Bengali New Year.

On Monday (April 14), members of the women’s national football team, including captain Afida Khandaker and Shaheda Akter Ripa, marched in the Boishakh rally arranged under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Nearly all players from the ongoing BFF camp took part, accompanied by their coaching staff and federation officials.

The participation of the team added a new dimension to the celebration, symbolizing unity across all professions and communities. Celebrated filmmaker and cultural adviser to the ministry, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, was present at the event and exchanged New Year greetings with the players.

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that this marks the first time the national women’s football team has officially participated in such a government-led cultural procession. Their presence was not only festive but also a recognition of their back-to-back SAFF Championship victories. In light of these achievements, the government recently honored nine players with the prestigious Ekushey Padak. However, those nine players could not attend the rally as they are currently on duty in Bhutan.
