Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday called on Chinese investors to help shape a transformative future for Bangladesh, citing vast investment opportunities and a growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade, Prof Yunus said, “We have to build a future together which can touch the sky. That’s the potential we have together.” He invited Chinese investors to explore Bangladesh’s investment prospects and contribute to its evolving economic landscape.
The conference was also attended by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.
Prof Yunus highlighted the restructuring of BIDA and reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating investment from China. He recalled urging Chinese President Xi Jinping to encourage investment in Bangladesh and expressed gratitude that the request was acted upon.
Praising China’s manufacturing capabilities, Yunus emphasized the importance of building a robust partnership for mutual benefit.
Chinese Minister Wang reiterated Beijing’s support in enhancing Bangladesh’s export capacity and deepening trade and investment ties. He emphasized promoting development across key areas, including e-commerce, production chains, and bilateral trade cooperation.
Following earlier talks between Minister Wang and Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, the two sides signed two Memorandums of Understanding: one on establishing a Working Group on Facilitated Trade, and another on E-Commerce Cooperation.
Minister Bashir reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to free trade and WTO principles, and welcomed expanded cooperation with China in agriculture, manufacturing, and digital commerce.
