The 35th Bangladesh World Tennis Tour Junior J-30 began on Saturday at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna, attracting young players from 12 countries. After his historic victory in Rajshahi, Bangladeshi rising star Zarif Abrar is back in action, aiming to make his mark once again on home soil.

The qualifiers started on Saturday morning and will continue on Sunday, with the main draw scheduled for October 13. In the Boys’ division, 25 players are competing for 10 spots in the main draw, which already features 22 players. The Girls’ main draw will include 27 players.

On the first day, several Bangladeshi players advanced, including Tasbid Rahman, Al Mahid, Safwan Sami, Mohammad Tanvir, and Bokul Ali. Notably, Avinash Raj defeated Al Mahid 6-1, 6-2, while Safwan Sami received a walkover against India’s Ganesh Shine.

Zarif Abrar, who trained in the United States under Coach Alex in Florida, expressed confidence ahead of his matches in Dhaka.”Whenever I step onto the court, my goal is to perform my best. I will give it my all, and the results will follow on the court,” he said. Reflecting on his previous triumph in Rajshahi, he added, “The tournament there was excellent, and I hope for another strong performance here in Dhaka.”

Players from Bangladesh, Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, the UK, Hong Kong, India, Korea, the Maldives, Singapore, Thailand, and the US are competing in the event. The tournament is being overseen by Masfia Afrin, a Bangladeshi ITTF White Badge (Level-2) referee.

With Zarif Abrar in the spotlight, the Dhaka leg of the World Tennis Tour promises thrilling matches and a chance for Bangladesh’s young talents to shine on an international stage.
