Bangladesh seized the upper hand early in the Test as Taijul Islam’s brilliant six-wicket haul bundled Zimbabwe out for 227, wrapping up their innings with the first ball of Day 2.

Bangladesh had already set the stage on the opening day, reducing Zimbabwe to 227 for 9 by stumps after a devastating final session led by Taijul Islam. Resuming on the second day, Zimbabwe lost their last wicket immediately, ending their first innings without adding a run.

The visitors had shown resilience earlier, especially in the second session, where they did not lose a wicket after being two down in the morning. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers, spearheaded by Taijul, struck back ferociously under fading light, dismissing seven Zimbabwean batters in the last session.

For Zimbabwe, Sean Williams top-scored with a gritty 67, while Nick Welch contributed 54. The duo stitched together a crucial 105-run stand for the third wicket. Brian Bennett and Ben Curran chipped in with 21 runs each but failed to push their side to a commanding total.

Taijul Islam was the standout performer for Bangladesh, taking 6 wickets for just 60 runs, while Nayeem Hasan supported well with 2 for 42.

Brief Score:
Zimbabwe 1st Innings: 227 all out in 90.1 overs (Williams 67, Welch 54, Bennett 21, Curran 21; Taijul 6/60, Nayeem 2/42)
Toss: Zimbabwe
